Advanced Visual Field
ADVANCED VISUAL FIELD

Your optometrist may recommend a full visual field examination. Using the latest Zeiss equipment, we can check your peripheral and central visual field. The visual field test can help the doctor find early signs diseases like glaucoma that damages vision gradually. Visual field tests are especially important in the treatment of glaucoma. These tests will tell the doctor if vision is being lost even before the patient notices. That is just one of the reasons why people who have glaucoma need to keep all their appointments with their doctor.

In addition, the print out from the visual field test can help your optometrist diagnose other conditions such as strokes, glaucoma, pituitary tumor, multiple sclerosis and other conditions.  People with diabetes and high blood pressure have a greater risk of developing blocked blood vessels in the optic nerve and retina. They may need visual field testing to monitor any effects of these conditions on their vision.

OCT Eye Scans

OCT EYE SCANS

The Zeiss OCT eye scanner uses low powered light to scan the back of your eye. During your normal eye examination your doctor can only see the top layer of your retina. The OCT scan allows viewing of the deeper layer of the retinal tissues in high definition . It is in these  deeper layers that the signs of macular holes, macular degeneration, diabetes and other ocular diseases can be seen first.

The OCT scan can also allow us to see the damaging effects of glaucoma much sooner. It is also very helpful in monitoring anyone with the disease.  Glaucoma is a manageable condition, so early diagnosis is essential to help save your sight. You don’t have to have a family history of eye problems to suffer from glaucoma. Glaucoma does not hurt or affect your vision in the early stages so don’t assume just because your eyes feel ok that they are.

COLOR RETINAL PHOTOGRAPHY

At Prestige Eye Care we offer color retinal photography. With the enlarged images, the back of the eye can be examined more closely. The camera is designed to photograph the interior of the eye including  the retinal vasculature, optic disc, macula and posterior pole. The images are captured for patients with diabetic retinopathy, hypertension, moles, glaucoma and other ocular conditions. The images are recorded until your next visit when subsequent photos can be compared to monitor change over time.
